I don’t think it’s available yet. I was very lucky to get hold of an advanced screener of the film which is touring festivals at the moment. Visit the film’s website at http://betweentworivers.net to check on it’s progress. You contact the filmmakers through that and maybe they’ll get a copy to you somehow.

Enjoyed checking out this blog, I think you enjoyed Chronicle a bit more than I did. However, the guys I review films with enjoyed it about as much as you did. I found the found footage annoying as well as the fact that these must have been the three dumbest teenagers on the planet. Who the hell would knock over the local gas and sip if you had powers of telekinesis strong enough to fly and knock down buildings? For that matter what graduating high school student has to look up the definition of telekinesis?

I was just wondering where you’d got to recently. I thought you’d moved to pastures new after reading your Flickering Myth posts (which are excellent by the way).

Good to have you back though, some interesting thoughts on the year and recent releases. I’ve got a bit of catching up to do on a lot of the films out this year and last, but I did enjoy the Descendants for much the same reasons as you mentioned.

I cannot agree more with your take on this favorite film. There are so many layers that can be pulled back to reveal more and even already knowing the magical twist doesn’t reduce its replay value as there’s more to discover watching it over again. I love movies like that and especially those that are so iconic for quotes. There are so many to choose from, some at http://www.ranker.com/list/fight-club-movie-quotes/movie-and-tv-quotes if you’re interested, but the rules will always remain the best one in my opinion.

Nice to see you perusing Blueprint: Review Matt, I’ve been a follower of DTV Connoisseur for a while.

They’re not on the level of his later work, but they’re well worth a look, especially Where Now Are the Dreams of Youth. The set itself is interesting too – the leaflet gives a fascinating look at Ozu’s early years as well as the piece with Tony Rayns.

No it’s a mixture of award winners. You’d be surprised – loads of classic indie films play at Sundance but the awards are actually given out to some of the lesser known ones. I’ve only done one a year though from the last 15 years, so there are some great ones from the 90′s missing and one or two years had a bumper crop.

Annoyingly they just released the first full Spiderman trailer just after I wrote this. It actually looks pretty good - a lot less overly serious than the first teaser, which is good. It still looks too similar to the Sam Raimi ones to seem necessary though. Here it is:

I was quite surprised when collating this poll that a lot of the films that get all the ‘buzz’ from Sundance don’t often win the awards as there weren’t quite as many well known indie-crossovers as I’d expected. There are still some great titles in there though – I voted for In The Company of Men. I love Murderball, American Splendor, Pi and Dogtown and Z-Boys, but In the Company of Men just stuck with me more I think and is more consistent than some of them.
